twitter - novelty messaging site or not?

So I've been using twitter for the last 2 weeks now, and I've used it to update my status every now and then, sometimes several times a day. At the moment i enjoy the novelty of going on twitter and updating my status or saying random things to my friends i follow or that follow me on the site. Though at the moment unless i log on to twitter and refresh my page every now and then, I don't know if some one i follow has updated their own status. Unlike facebook, which sends an email to me every time someone writes on my wall.

I've just add my phone number into twitter and trying to figure out how to get twitter to actually send me a text message every time someone i follow updates their status. I'll have to figure it out, but i think i know basically how to do it. If it works good for me, if it doesn't, I'll have to try again.

Updating my status on twitter, is similar to updating my status on facebook, both consists of Corrine is......., showing what I'm doing at that very moment. Since I've been using facebook longer, i tend to prefer to update my status on it. But i do like the idea that twitter is slightly different and allows a text message to be sent to your phone, free of charge (at least they claim it), hopefully i won't get a big telephone bill next month :S

On a lighter note, i like calling updating my status on twitter - "twittering". Its fun haha and rolls off the tongue. Corrine is twittering, Corrine likes twittering on twitter, twit, twit twit.
